Like the original Drozd machine gun, the Blackbird uses both CO2 and battery power in its functioning. I’m not sure why they chose the name- to me, it brings up images of either the Paul McCartney song or the SR-71 aircraft- but it seems to fit this futuristic looking carbine. Those imaginative designers at Drozd who delivered the first practical BB machine gun (I’m not counting those freon-powered toys from several years ago) now bring us the spacey Blackbird. And a lot of the three-stage compressors sold by air gun dealers have been very disappointing. Most commercial three-stage compressors are too big, and too expensive. Hand pumping simply delays the labor of hand cocking a gun. Not everyone has a dive shop nearby where they can get their tanks recharged- and some will not recharge tanks unless you have a dive card. That means either lugging around a SCUBA tank (which has to be taken to a dive shop to be recharged), laborious hand pumping, or buying an expensive three-stage compressor that can generate pressures of 3200psi. Precharged pneumatics led you shoot scores of pellest without the exertion of cocking or pumping up, but sooner or later you’ve got to recharge the gun.
